Duravit Through the Ages: A History of Innovation in Bathroom Design

As Duravit Australia, we’re proud to reflect on our storied history, a journey marked by innovation, design, and technology that has revolutionised the bathroom experience. From our humble beginnings to becoming a global leader in the bathroom, our path has been paved with milestones that have not only shaped our company but the industry at large.

The Early Years: A Foundation of Quality

Our story began in 1817 when George Friedrich Horn was granted permission to operate a ceramic factory in Hornberg. This marked the start of a commitment to quality that would become the cornerstone of Duravit. By 1950, we had transitioned to the production of sanitary porcelain, setting the stage for a series of innovations that would define the modern bathroom.

Innovation in the 1960s: The Wall-MountedToilet

The 1960s saw the introduction of the Duravit wall-mounted toilet, a breakthrough that prioritised functionality and hygiene. This innovation was a response to the growing demand for bathroom fixtures that were not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing.

A Splash of Colour: The 1970s

The following decade brought a wave of creativity to the bathroom, with decoration, shapes, and colours coming into play. Duravit embraced this trend, infusing our products with personality and style that resonated with our customers.

Design Revolution: The 1980s and Beyond

The 1980s marked a significant shift in the bathroom landscape, with design becoming a central element. Duravit was at the forefront of this transformation, collaborating with Dieter Sieger to set new standards in bathroom design. These partnerships continued to flourish, culminating in the iconic collaborations with Philippe Starck in 1994, which gave birth to modern classics and established the DNA of Duravit.

Embracing Technology: The 21st Century

As we moved into the new millennium, technology became an integral part of our product development. The Duravit Technology Center opened in 2014, is a testament to our commitment to innovation that enhances comfort and sustainability without overpowering design.
