Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez

Matteo Thun was born in Bozen (South Tyrol) in 1952. After studying at the Oskar Kokoschka Academy in Salzburg, and at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence, in 1981, he was one of the co-founders of the legendary Memphis Group. Its members questioned the pure functionality of design objects.

In 1984, he founded Studio Matteo Thun in Milan and, from 1990-93, was Creative Director for Swatch. He has won the "Compasso d'Oro" Italian design award three times. In 2001, his Hotel Side in Hamburg, which he created in collaboration with artist Robert Wilson, received the accolade "Hotel of the Year". In 2004, he was included in the New York Hall of Fame. Together with Duravit, Thun and his partner Antonio Rodruigez took on the challenge of developing a sustainable bathroom programme that would be suitable for all requirements and applications. This holistic approach gave rise to the DuraStyle series: a complete programme with a visual lightness and formal simplicity that create an ambience that is understated and yet that offers attractive highlights.
